Soulful songs in the heart of the city at The Market Tap.

The Covered Market, in the heart of Oxford, holds many layers of local history. The market is now improving its facilities, and as the evenings get warmer, opening hours are being extended. Alongside other new shops, OCM favourite Tap Social will be hosting a bar with table seating, which is the perfect place to sit back and listen to music. As always, they’ll be serving a wide selection of drinks, including beer from their own social enterprise brewery.

The evening’s programme will be a double bill of acoustic singer-songwriter performances by two exciting artists. Entrance is free and no tickets are required. Click on the venue link for full venue/access information.

Marie Bashiru

Hailing from south-east London, Marie Bashiru is a musician, writer, and researcher. Coined as one to watch by BBC Introducing's Jess Iszatt, and described by Gigwise as 'a brand new talent', her music 'understated' and a 'simple beauty’, her biographical writing talents paired with her soulful melodies have been selected by The Independent as one of 2020's Artist Spotlight. Her research on Black British folk music culminated in the release of the podcast, 'British Folk Music: Where Are All The Black People?’ in 2022, and she has written for publications such as Black Ballad, and Songlines Magazine.

Midori Jaeger

Midori Jaeger is a London-based artist who makes emotive songs that refuse to fit into a box.  Recognised by Moses Sumney and Madison Cunningham for her one-of-a-kind cello and vocal style, Midori’s talent is quickly becoming known worldwide. Her 2021 EP 'See Touch Kick and Sweat' gained Jazz FM Late Night Track of the Week and a solo set in November 2022 at the Purcell Room as part of the London Jazz Festival. Midori has performed her music at King’s Place, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club (2022), live on BBC Radio London, and will support Julian Lage (Blue Note) at Union Chapel in April 2023. Midori starts her first UK tour this Spring.

Accompanied by Felix Higginbottom (percussion).
