15 musicians based in Oxford, with musical heritages from across the globe, bring their instruments, voices, experiences and cultures to create a joyous sound. Raise a glass, have a chat and a dance whilst listening to this vibrant band.
Based around a weekly sharing session, Starling Sessions has been forging new music and connections since Sept 2021. Musicians bring songs from their own traditions to share and reinvent them with energy and excitement. Celebrate the final show of this run of Dido’s Bar by Dash Arts with a magical after party.
About Starling Sessions
Think local, folk global! Starling Sessions is a global folk community orchestra, exploring traditional music from around the world through the people taking part. Each member of the band brings a song with them to share and together we create a musical mosaic of Oxford. Like the common starling, which makes its home anywhere and has a knack for learning the songs of other birds around it, we learn to sing the songs that have made their home in Oxford.

“The experience of living in a foreign land is alienating….this group does so much to salve that by connecting us to others who find the local stuff strange and by giving us an outlet where we can bring parts of our home alive. It’s just so great to have a community which is accepting of these differences and you guys have really made Oxford more welcoming and home for all of us.
