ECHO LOCATION

A musical composition by Robert Jarvis for a 'choir' of bats and a beautiful country walk

Echo location was presented in collaboration with Outdoor Culture and Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.

Robert Jarvis worked with two schools, Aston and Cote Church of England Primary School and Bampton Church of England Primary School. Over 50 local children visited Chimney Meadows Nature Reserve to learn about the ecology of the reserve and listen to its soundscape; during their visit they collected sounds to use back n the classroom. Both schools created a new composition, one inspired by badger calls and the other by slowed-down birdsong. The compositions were performed along side Roberts during the evening of Echo Location adding to an extraordinary musical experience celebrating the often-unheard wonders of nature.
