Matthew Barley (cello)

Matthew Barley

A musical journey through other worlds and ages

Cello playing is at the centre of Matthew Barleys career, although his musical world has virtually no geographical, social or stylistic boundaries. In his new solo show, Matthew takes uson a trip through early central European shamanism, Europes timeless Gregorian Chants and four centuries of classical music with works by Gabrielli, Bach, Kodaly and minimalist composer Steve Reich. A new work by John Metcalfe and a collaborationwith DJ Bee/ Peter Wiegold bring us to the UK and today. Matthew is in much demand from top orchestras around the world but is equally at home with chamber music, improvisation, electronics and a range of playing styles from different cultures.

"I wish more people would think about music the way Matthew Barley does" The Times
