“…a globally minded, technologically adept, technically sophisticated composer who also happens to be a virtuoso performer and accomplished improvisor.” Los Angeles Times
Transcending the boundaries of genre, New York composer-percussionist Lukas Ligeti has developed a highly individual musical style that draws on Downtown New York experimentalism, contemporary classical music, jazz and electronica, as well as world music. Following rave reviews for his recent CD Afrikan Machinery (Tzadik), Ligeti reveals an inspiring new take on the dialogue between African and Western music achieved through ingenious use of sampling and music technology.
At times intriguing, beguiling, and hypnotizing, Ligeti’s work centres around his steadfast belief — that music can be highly innovative without leaving the audience behind.
