Grupo Lokito (Grupo=Spanish; Lokito=Lingala) is a fusion of two seemingly disparate but in fact closely connected cultures. Combining the sounds of Congolese and Latin music, the resulting hybrid is a unique and captivating sound that appeals to all audiences regardless of age or nationality. Bringing together musicians with backgrounds in both Congolese and Latin music, Grupo Lokito’s talents re-connect the two continents.
The group was assembled in 2004 as the brainchild of key band members Sara McGuiness and Jose Hendrix Ndelo. They fused their extensive experience in each respective musical genre into a new and exciting genre of what can only be classified as ‘Lokito’. As Sara remarks, “we want to have a serious grounding for our musicians in both styles and then make our own music”.
