In Spring 2002 OCM focused on new Russian music and arts, tracing the joint influences of the suppressed Russian avant garde of the 1920s and contemporary Western musics on musicians working in the post-Soviet period. The programme, unique to OCM, included a residency by the leading new music group in Russia, the Studio for New Music, a jazz sextet, Stekpanna, and the most exciting and progressive rock group in St Petersburg, ZGA, all performing in the UK for the first time.
