- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Solveig Slettahjell has become one of the most interesting singers to come from that inspiring and musically rich country in recent years. Her ‘spacious and free’ (Times) approach to jazz won her the Norwegian equivalent of a Grammy award and she continues to woo audiences and critics alike. Her music suspends time, never using exhibitionism or speed when heartfelt stillness, subtlety or the beautiful timbre of her voice will do a much better job.
Ilmiliekki are outrageously young (the most senior band member and exceptional trumpeter Pohjola is barely 27) and are already making a big impact in their native Finland. The group’s talents lie in their original, fresh sounding tunes and the uncanny empathy between four fluent musicians who have the inspiration and self-confidence to make jazz sound as if they just invented it. Formed 4 years ago, Ilmiliekki have already won awards including Finlands Young Artist of the Year and Young Nordic Jazz Comets.
