Felix Lajko is a Magyar from Yugoslavia
who started playing the zither and the violin at the age of
10. Largely self-taught, he is a highly accomplished experimenter:
he is constantly exploring the limits of his instrument with
a boundless passion. His interest in collaboration has led
him to tour with Boban Markovic’s gypsy band as well
as performing a breathtaking duo with Romanian born violinist
Alexander Balananesu. He defies stereotypes whilst wielding
the skill of each musical idiom – jazz, classical as
well as folk.
“My music is based on the delicacy
and colourfulness of my instrument. I do not play any new
types of musical genre, I only follow my own path and improvise
and write music.”
In Hungary he performs to crowds of thousands.
This is a rare chance to see Lajko in performance in the UK
and in the evocative setting of Dorchester Abbey.
