New College Choir has recently
been exploring new ground with a trio of CDs celebrating 20th
century choral music to be released this year. In this spirit
OCM has commissioned jazz composer and pianist Nikki Yeoh
to venture into new territory herself, to write a piece for
the choir that will be premiered at tonight’s concert
and feature Nikki on piano.
The choir
has earned an admirable reputation worldwide and regularly
tours internationally to perform. Nikki Yeoh has worked with
everyone from Courtney Pine to Neneh Cherry. She has
also collaborated with world-renowned classical pianist Joanna
MacGregor on her Sound Circus record label and been commissioned
by many leading classical and jazz ensembles. The programme
will also include works by Jonathan Dove, James MacMillan,
Tarik O’Regan and Julian Anderson amongst others.
