Nuru Kane won many fans at the 2004 Festival in the Desert
in Mali and the BBC film of the event, not to mention at OCM@MAO
last season. OCM and Big Village have invited him back to
Oxford - with his band this time. Born 31 years ago in Medina,
Dakar, Senegal, Nuru Kane walks, talks, sleeps and eats music.
As a natural band front man, Nuru’s tall and commanding
presence oozes charisma, mixing intrigue with quality and
a beguiling openness.
His acoustic
guitar playing is taut and hypnotic, while his golden voice
and compelling songs are engaging, honest and thoroughly
modern. His music is an unusual mix of gnawa and many other
influences and styles. Guaranteed to enthral the majority
but perhaps get the purists scratching their heads.
“…a mesmerising web of music”
Simon Broughton, Songlines
In association
with Big Village
