Luminox was a transformational event
that brought together art, music and spectacle in one of Oxfordshire’s
most historic places. It was one of the key events to launch
the 2007 celebrations that marked one thousand years of Oxfordshire.
For three hours each night Broad Street
was turned into a transcendent environment by the light of
a thousand flickering fires, created by renowned French art
group Carabosse in collaboration with Oxford-based artist
Ted Dewan. The street became an atmospheric piazza for public
promenade and relaxation allowing the audience to experience
the city centre in a unique way.
In the middle of the street was a band-stand
which hosted a live music programme curated by OCM creating
an evocative sound world in which to enjoy Luminox. The music
ranged from graceful folk tunes to string quartets, from Japanese
flute music to gentle electronica. Artists included Spiro,
Daniel Weaver, Clive Bell with Melissa Holding, Jali Fily
Cissokho, Mary Hampton, The Téa Hodzic Trio, The Elysian
Quartet, Sleeps in Oysters and Emily Burridge with BJ Cole.
Luminox was supported by Arts Council
England, South East, BMW Group Plant Oxford, Malmaison, Oxford,
Lucy Properties, The Big Bang, Modern Art Oxford, Oxford City
Council and Oxfordshire County Council.
