To launch Vent Live Art, a series of events organized by
OVADA and Oxford Brookes University, Christina Kubisch was
commissioned to produce 8 Magnetic Walks. Together with artist
and composer Ray Lee and using specially designed electro-magnetic
technology, she revealed the mysterious and hidden sound world
of Oxford. Visitors to the OVADA gallery could pick up a set
of Christina’s special headphones and experience the
walks for themselves. The headphones detected electro-magnetic
signals from the everyday devices that we take for granted
such as anti-theft barriers in shops, cash tills, mobile phones,
surveillance cameras and hearing loops.
On Friday 8th April Christina and Ray used 8 walks recorded
by Oxford artists and turned them into a performance in the
Old Fire Station.
