Gilad Atzmon (saxes, clarinet, vocals & electronics)
Frank Harrison (piano & electronics)
Yaron Stavi (double bass)
Asaf Sirkis (Drums)
Bringing together some of the most vital
players of the moment, this quartet fuses jazz with middle-eastern
sounds and electronica. Formed in 2000, the Orient House Ensemble’s
Refuge project and new album takes his quartet in new directions,
widening their palette with live electronic manipulation.
Gilad Atzmon is a unique character on
the UK jazz scene. Born in Israel and a strong campaigner
for Palestinian rights, his music is never far from his politics.
With his trademark sense of humour he deftly weaves powerful
statements into powerful music. The band members’ list
of outside collaborations reads like an amazing fictional
awards ceremony from Chick Corea to Ian Dury via Boulez and
Robert Wyatt. Fans of high octane jazz, eclectic grooves and
deep felt lyricism won’t be disappointed.

– The Guardian
Workshop
Gilad and one of his band give entertaining and engaging insight
into the way jazz musicians improvise and perform together.
Spot television theme tunes, classic film soundtracks, witty
takes on classic British songs and maybe even the odd pop
song; all manipulated and re-invented within an acoustic jazz
setting.
