Spring Season 2008

This Spring OCM brings you the freshest, the hottest, the most strange and beautiful and the most exclusive.

As the ground reawakens from its winter snooze and the buds burst open, OCM celebrates our favourite season by moving outdoors. This spring we launch ‘Born in a Barn’, a series of new music events in rural spaces, starting in North Aston where the sounds, smells and tastes of the farm mingle with the extraordinary Finnish accordion playing of Kimmo Pohjonen. In June we invite you into the woods in Nuneham Courtney for a picnic amongst the mayhem and magic of Tim Hill’s murmuring monsters and pandaemonium processions.

This season, which is kindly sponsored by Scandinavian home interior specialists Northlight Design, also sees a new selection of Futuresound events, presenting some of the freshest and most promising new bands on the UK scene with Fraud and Corey Mwamba, and from Brazil’s rising star, Cibelle. Other new sounds from round the world are from Africa with Charlie Dark and Portugal with Miso Music and the Smith Quartet. Alexander Balanescu also pays us a return visit with his own string quartet and the moving show, Second Breath. To top it all our popular Slounge events mix delicious organic food with fascinating sounds, images, words and strange happenings at the Vaults. We hope that with this season’s multi-sensory offerings, there’s something here to tempt you to come and join us.

Slounge started as a new series for OCM in spring last year and continues into its second year.

Mixing up live music, DJs, live art, visual art, poetry and film, the Slounge events
delve into the best of the new, turning up unusual and inspiring combinations. With a laid-back atmosphere they’re your one-stop-shop for a cultural fix!

This Spring OCM is once again working with OVADA – gallery and arts developers; Hammer & Tongue – purveyors of ‘poetry for the club generation’ and now Oxford Film & Video Makers and the Vaults Café.

FUTURE SOUND brings you the hottest and freshest new talent on the scene, a pointer to an exciting future. This series spread across the OCM seasons will be oppurtunities not only for a wider public to see these artists but also for the artists to share their experiences and knowledge with other emerging performers and composers.

FUTURESOUND is supported by Arts Council England, South East.
